Lest I Forget

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. KJV — 1Corinthians 1:18

Lest I forget:
That you left your father’s house of light, your glory circled throne…
That you suffered much for me, more than tongue can tell to rescue me from hell
That you gave your life for me and your precious blood you shed
That you brought salvation, pardon, love full and free
You left all for me,
You’ve borne all for me
You gave your life for me
LEAD ME TO CALVARY

Whenever I think of all that Christ gave up for the fallen human race, I find a reason to keep the cross in sight. When I think of all that Christ went through, of bitterest agony, I find a reason to call upon the power of the cross of Calvary. I think of the victory at Calvary, and I find a reason to cling to the cross for strength.

The message of the cross is to us power unto salvation. This is what Jesus came to remind us of. There, mercy is great and grace is free. There, pardon is multiplied and our burdened souls find liberty. Right there at Calvary.

While we find life at a look at Calvary, while we find pardon full and free, while we find grace, joy, peace, and healing at the cross; the question comes - Must Jesus bear the cross alone and all the whole world go free? Let’s find the answer from the encounter of Jesus with a young rich man.

Jesus is approached by a young man who according to his finite minds is 101% perfect because he kept all the commandments. However, he still seeks to know what good thing he can do so as to enter heaven. Jesus gives an answer that called self to die and usher in submission to the will of God. Jesus simply tells him to bear his cross! In the same way, we may also feel like we have done all that seems good and kept all the commandments, including the 4th. But all that is nothing if we miss the one important thing:

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. KJV — Luke 9:23

And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. KJV — Luke 14:27

Christ must not bear the cross alone and all the world go free for there’s across for everyone, and there’s a cross for me.

The consecrated cross I’ll bear
till death shall set me free;
and then go home my crown to wear,
for there’s a crown for me.
Upon the crystal pavement,
down at Jesus pierced feet,
with joy I’ll cast my golden crown
and His dear name repeat

This ought to be our confession if at all heaven is what we really desire. If we must be saints in heaven then we must be saints here on earth. If we are to receive those crowns then we must be ready to bear the cross. By being ready to bear our cross we will be ready to bear Christ’s cross and even His cup of grief to share. Our daily desire would be Lord draw me nearer to the precious bleeding cross.

If we would be free from the burden of sin, if we would find victory over sin, passions and pride, if we would do service for Christ whole-heartedly then we should go to CALVARY - for at Calvary there is wonder-working power.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: KJV — John 3:14

Oh that the son of man may be lifted up in our life. This can only be possible if we submit ourselves to the will of God.

There is an eloquence far more powerful than the eloquence of words in the quiet, consistent life of a pure, true Christian. What a man is has more influence than what he says.
