Marvelous Grace

Marvelous Grace

This is one of my favorite hymns, ponder upon these words.

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
Grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt,
yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured,
there where the blood of the lamb was spilt.

Grace as it has often been said is "unmerited favor" but that does not adequately describe what grace is. It's something much more, the tongue cannot tell, words fall short of a proper description. And all that we can do is marvel as we behold the fullness of heaven poured out in the grand sacrifice, when the lamb of God was slain at dark Calvary.

Oh! Grace! Grace! God's grace
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within.
Marvelous grace, God's grace
Grace that is greater than all our sins.

One aspect that most Christians have not yet known about grace, is that it not only pardons (forgives), but it cleanses a person from the filth that is in the world. Grace is a teacher of righteousness and it transforms the recipient. "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men. TEACHING us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts we should live soberly, righteously and godly in this present world." Titus 2:11,12.

Sin and despair like the sea waves cold,
threaten the soul with infinite loss,
grace that is greater, yes grace untold,
points to the refuge the mighty cross.

Sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4). The only way for us to know we are sinners is through the law, but the knowledge of sin does not help instead it creates in us a sense of guilt. We despair for "our iniquities have taken hold upon us, so that we are not able to look up" Psalm 40:12 When we reach such a state, lo and behold! Our compassionate loving savior is revealed, for where sin abounded grace did much more abound. The more we realize our sinfulness the more we appreciate the matchless grace of God.

Marvelous! infinite! Matchless grace
freely bestowed on all who believe
you that are longing to see His face
will you this moment His grace receive?

That grace so freely offered is not cheap, it is beyond computation, priceless. It was obtained by the death of the Prince of heaven. The Innocent one died that the guilty might live. Wonder O heavens! Be astonished O earth!

"All heaven is interested in our salvation; and shall we be indifferent? Shall we be careless, as though it was a small matter whether we are saved or lost? Shall we slight the sacrifice that has been made for us? The infinite price paid for our redemption, shows us its value; and just in proportion to the magnitude of the gift offered, is the guilt and folly of its rejection. All that God could do has been done to save man. Those who reject the mercy so freely proffered, will yet be made to know the worth of that which they have despised. They will feel the agony which Christ endured upon the cross to purchase redemption for all who would receive it. And they will then realize what they have lost, -eternal life and the immortal inheritance."

Will you this moment, yes even now as you are reading, His grace receive?
