Having looked at Nutrition, let us now see another law of health which is as equally important and without its practice we are assured of compromised health.
3 John verse 2
Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health ,even as thy soul prospereth.
Regular exercise accompanied with a healthy plant based diet improves your health, reduces the risk of developing diseases and aids in recovery of diseases.
If those who are sick would exercise their muscles daily, men as well as women in outdoor work ,using brain ,bone, and muscle proportionately, weakness and languor would disappear.Health would take the place of disease and strength the place of feebleness.
Medical Ministry by E.G White, Pg 297
As we find strength in our physical, Christ has assured us of spiritual strength.
Isaiah 40:29,30
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
God designed that our bodies be in daily activity for in the activity or motion is its preserving power. Inactivity is a fruitful cause of disease, therefore we ought to undertake healthful exercise which is; regular (atleast 30 minutes per day), brisk but not violent, varied such as walking or gardening such that all body muscles are exercised, it should also be enjoyed for it to be maximally beneficial, for without physical exercise no one can have a sound and vigorous health.
Morning exercise,in walking in the free ,invigorating air of heaven is necessary to a healthful circulation of blood. It is surest safeguard against colds, coughs, congestions of the brain and lungs…
Healthful Living by E.G White, Pg 130,131
Proper exercise has numerous benefits to our health, just to outline but a few;
-
Exercise improves mental efficiency and promotes clear thinking.Pure, cool air quiets distracted brains.
- Exercise Improves blood circulation as it:
- Increases the efficiency of the lungs as more oxygen is supplied for transportation by the Red Blood Cells into the body tissue
- Increases the heart’s efficiency:the heart muscles become stronger thus pumping more blood to the extremities .The blood vessels’ activity will also be enhanced.
-
Exercise improves digestion, diseased stomachs will find relief in exercise. But remember you should not engage in violent exercise immediately after eating, for there is a strong draught upon the nervous energy, the brain force is called to action to assist the stomach in digestion, thus when the mind is taxed heavily after eating the digestion process is hindered. The energy needed for digestion is now directed to another work.
-
Body organs like the kidneys, liver, lungs, brain and skin are strengthened to perform their work through exercise.
-
Exercise slows down the aging process as it gives the skin a healthful glow and also improves performance in the activities of the day
-
Exercise helps keep ideal weight, one will not be obese or extremely thin.
- Exercise helps reduce stress, as It lifts gloom from mind by stimulating production of cortisol and Norepinephrine, antidepressives of the brain.
Take note that, we ought to exercise all the body parts. Exercise of one muscle while the other are left with nothing to do will not strengthen the inactive ones. Each faculty of the mind and each muscle has its distinctive office, and all require to be exercised in order to accomplish the designed objective.
There’s no exercise that can take the place of walking. It is the best remedy for diseased bodies because in walking all the organs of the body are brought into use,the muscles and veins are enabled to perform their work better. It lowers blood cholesterol and blood pressure. Moreover, it is simple and inexpensive ☺️.
In the book of Genesis we see our first parents’ exercise was gardening.
Genesis 2:15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress (cultivate) it and to keep it.
Our first parents exercised, so should we ☺️.
Continued inactivity (lack of exercise) is one of the greatest causes of debility of body and feebleness of mind. By not exercising you are prone to diseases such as Obesity, Hypertension, and Diabetes Mellitus. Low bone density will be experienced.
Exercise is a blessing - will you not grab it?
