Not Just For Relief

May not my prayers in distress Be crafted schemes to dodge duress, Nor trembling words I only say To wish my grief would go away.

But let them rise, uncloaked and true, A soul laid bare, reaching You. Not as a trade; relief for pain But as the seeking of Your name.

So that whatever comes to me, Buoy or burden, storm or sea, Whether joy lifts or sorrow drains I rest secure beyond the chains.

For pain is bearable, and joy is deep, When I am cradled in arms that keep. Not for escape, but for embrace To be held steady by Your grace.
