Lord, may I live for Your approval alone,
Not for the praise of those I have known.
When daylight fades and the shadows grow long,
May You find in my heart a steadfast song.
May You say of me when the day is through,
“That child loved Me in all they knew;
They walked in the path I called them to tread,
And fed the hungry with My living bread.”
May I not live to inspire people, nor for praise, accolades, or anything of the sort,
For I am convinced that in living for Your approval,
Hearts will automatically be inspired and drawn to You, not to me.
I need not strive for human applause or chase after outcomes,
For living for You will bear its own fruit,
And the good that comes will flow from Your hand, not mine.
Let my hands do the work that brings You delight,
Let my feet walk only in what is right.
Grant me the grace to serve without pride,
That others see You and not me inside.
If I’ve made one life lighter, one burden less,
In a way that brings You glory and bless,
Then my labour is not in vain or alone
For all that I am is Yours to own.
And when my last breath upon earth is drawn,
When time and all striving have fully gone,
May I hear Your voice, sure and fervent:
“Well done, My child… My good and faithful servant.”
